The real work of USGBC Maryland is in the Committees. The chapter depends on its dedicated volunteers to propel and fulfill its mission throughout the state of Maryland. Your skills, knowledge, resources and dedication are of real value to both propelling our mission and making sure that you, as our members, can get involved in the most personally valuable way.
 
As the chapter continues to develop and expand we need your help more than ever.   There are a variety of opportunities to suite your geographic location, skills, interests, and time availability. Advocacy

The committee works year round to formulate, plan and execute the chapter's advocacy agenda. 



Branches

The committee supports the chapter branches and looks for opportunities for reaching new parts of Maryland.  Currently we have two branches the Northern Chesapeake Branch and Southern Maryland Branch.  We are working on a third branch in western Maryland.
 


Communication

The responsibility of this committee is to communicate the chapter's mission, vision, goals and objectives and effectively plan strategies for marketing and the promotion of chapter programs and events; enhance, edit and maintain the website. 



 
Events/Programs/Credential Maintenance
Meet: 1st Tuesday 6:00 PM

The committee works closely with the executive director to develop, schedule and deliver programs and events that entice new members, retain existing and meet the needs of the chapters diverse needs.
The chapter has an obligation to keep our members abreast of LEED credential information and maintenance through planning and implementing GBCI LEED specific approved programs and workshops.
There are synergies between the Membership and Education Committees.



Wintergreen Awards Planning Committee
Meet: 3rd Wednesday 6:00 PM
Location: Various, usually Baltimore City or just outside

A subdivision of the Events/Programs, the committee works year-round to put together the chapter's Annual Awards Event, The Wintergreen Awards for Excellence In Green Building.  Held at the end of January it is the largest annual event.


 
Healthcare

The Health Care Committee focuses on sustainable design in health care facilities, to help make them more efficient, cost effective and healthier for patients, visitors and staff.  The committee fosters collaboration with other like-minded organizations and organize programs and workshops based on interest and need.

 
Homes

The committee promotes USGBC's LEED for Homes program; builds partnerships with other organizations, builders, developers and those in residential real estate to increase awareness of and understanding of residential green building.  They work to make buying or renovating green a more viable option and drive the market place. 



Membership

The committee works to recruit new members, observe trends, welcome new members and assist in planning and implementing the Annual Membership meeting as well as some additional programs and events.


 
Green Schools

The committee is focused on a national goal for all students to be attending a green school within a generation.  To that end, we have been working primarily with public school systems, trying to educate them to what it means to be a green school, how that can be planned with new schools and how they can work with existing schools (the bulk of their properties).  We have also worked with like minded groups to achieve goals of educating students, parents, administration and staff.
